Honeycombs In Concrete: Honeycombs are the voids  and cavities or the areas of Concrete that are coarse and stoney.  When the concrete is  poured in many construction member such as Columns, Foundation and  Rcc Structures and is not properly vibrated or tempered through tempering rod then it may leave voids called  “honeycombing”.  Honeycombs which are on sides can be seen easily as soon Shuttering is removed, which are inside of the concrete can only be detected by advanced technique l such ultrasonic testing.

Reasons of Honeycomb :

Improper Mixing or not using the vibrator properly while Concreting.

• It can be due to Insufficient fine material in the mix or incorrect aggregate grading or poor mixing
• When we pour concrete from a certain height the aggregates and mortar get separated and settle down partly which causes honeycombs in concrete.
• It can be due to presence of Large size of aggregate in the concrete.

How Honeycomb can be corrected :

• It can be corrected by  increasing the sand and cement content of the mix .
• Proper Patching even will keep the concrete out  of the bees.
• Can be avoided by proper mixing, placing and compaction.
